counters on websites (privacy question)

hi, i was wondering if there is a way to stop counters on certain websites to find out what operating system i have installed?

i.e. sitemeter.com provides such a free counter service. the webmaster with the counter code on his page can see detailed information about an ip address (visitor) .. even what operating system the visitor has installed.

one site i know that is using this counter service is http://www.fotos100.de

I dont see how you could go wrong if you Disable Active Scripting and Cookies - Then find a nice proxy server and you should be completely safe.

Any other suggestions?
