If anonymity is your goal, SOCKS proxies are the best all-around proxies to use in your browser, newsreader, or other applications that take you onto the Internet

Here is a list of SOCKS "5" proxies, which are the most versatile type to use.

Port = *080

Test each proxy to see if Port *080 on the remote computer is still open. If *080 is closed the proxy will be useless for now (until they forget to close Port *080 again :-).

Once you find a working proxy you can test its anonymity and country location using the lookup tools on this site. "Proxy server not detected" is the result you want.

Safe surfing.

So just how do I enter that? The same as reg proxies but in the port put *080@SOCKS5 instead of just port *080? You guys are teaching this old lady a few new tricks. Funny, I've been on line for over 5 years and never worried about firewalls and anonymity until recently.

Yes the same. Ignore everything after *080. Just enter the 4 digit IP, choose SOCKS in your Nutscrape, Internet Exploder or TCP/IP, and type *080 where it asks for a port#

Thanks, I never go into the "advanced" stuff but did today and found the "socks" part. I love my sleepless nights of late, I'm exploring and learning.

Thanks Z,

I wasn't sure if you meant "all" the socks proxies listed above, or ALL the socks proxies, period.

Any chance these proxies might be revived?
I mean, does that happen, and should I keep checking them, or is it worth it?

Any advice as to how to look around for socks proxies?

I'm fairly new at this.

the proxies in this list -- like any proxy -- remains good until its owner closes the port you are trying to use. In this case *080.

So if none of these proxies work anymore it's because the owner closed port *080.

Either find new socks proxies or save this list and retest each one now and then. If they left *080 open once they might do it again. Then you'll be in business.

You can find more recently list of socks proxies and anonymous proxies on ProxyBlind site:

To find socks proxies use Proxyhunter...Good luck.

Thanks for the replies everyone, and thanks for the link, Z.

Went there and got lists and stuff.

Could only access the site through a proxy.
Strange, eh?

I took the browser crash test, and man did it work!

Which brings questions to mind.
*) How do they do that?
2) How do you protect your browser from it?

Since I don't use that nasty b***er, I don't know what to do ???

Maybe there is a patch for Nav somewhere?

z

None of you guys should be using socks 4, wingate, socks 5 proxies...if you're not doing anyting illegal. I just wanna let you all know...that socks 4, socks 5 proxies.. still LOG ALL the IPs that pass through it. Only wingates are not to log as default...

johnny

They may log, but how long does the typical overseas ISP keep logs? Especially individual computers in small, non-******* foreign countries?

FWIW I have it on good authority that no one here ever does anything illegal.

Thanks for protecting our reputation, johnny.

We are all very good boys and girls, here at this forum (wink! wink!).

The IP logging issue is very important, and I for one, would very much like to know more about it.

Are ISPs and other miscellaneous servers required by law to keep logs?
If so, for how long?
If not, what is known as to the percentage of those who do and don't keep logs?

I can believe that in some non-******* type countries the keeping of logs may not be given a great deal of importance, but is there a way to know whether logs are kept or not?

BTW, I still have a problem with absolute anonymity. I have yet to find a proxy which provides it at the socks (https ?)level.

How does one find Wingates?
