Use the manual that describes the use of cain. Also, search Google (http://www.google.com) for tutorials.

If you want to get passwords passing through your LAN, record VoIP conversations on your LAN, decrypt your local NTLM/LM password hashes, or many other local things, rtfm (http://www.oxid.it/ca_um/) like stated above.

If you want to get passwords which do not pass through your network in any way, Cain is totally useless to you.
