TO: All Forum Members
As Sept. 11 approaches in my country, I wish for all of you peace, good health, relative happiness (because total happiness seems impossible) and comfort in your beliefs. Tomorrow will bring grief and tears as, it seems, all of us here know of one victim or more of the incident. Don't know any of you personally, but nevertheless, Blessings and a Hug, truly good citizen, Newbietoo :-(. I am so sad!!!!!!

"...But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow, this ground -- The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have hallowed it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here; while it can never forget what they did here.
It is rather for us, the living, that we here be dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that, from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they here, gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve these dead shall not have died in vain; that the nation, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people by the people for the people, shall not perish from the earth."

Piexa, what a wonderful quote. Lincoln is my favorite president. I have been to the Lincoln Memorial in D.C. - it is very majestic.
Anyway, we are all exhausted in our little town from the "remembering" yesterday. Thanks to you and Sigkim for remembering too. Newbietoo

Hi Data,
Confused by your response. My feelings and sadness included all such incidences around the world!! I am from the Vietnam era and have been outraged by governmental decisions (and using citizens to implement them) (and citizens dying as a result on both sides).
My comment was simply an emotional venting in the Forum, which I will certainly never do again. You totally misunderstood my intent. Perhaps misplaced anger should be left out of the forum as well. Thank you for the lesson, though. Respectfully (really), Newbietoo

The powers that rule nations rarely reflect the good judgment of its wisest citizens. If the Earth and its people were somehow transformed into desktop computer, it would surely be running Windows, because that's the only system that corrupts as quickly as a government can :)
I believe Newbietoo extended these wishes to those, here, regarded as friends...not as residents of any particular region, nor in an effort to point out the fallibility of any particular government.
If we've gotta be territorial with well-wishes, though, I wish inner-peace, self-confidence and at least one pleasant surprise every day to all the good people of the Forum Nation of All-Nettools.com :)
On a final note...want to see an example of how utterly unimportant, insignificant and petty our world's geographical bickering is in the universal scheme of things? Check out the amazing powers of ten at:
http://micro.magnet.fsu.edu/primer/java/scienceopticsu/powersof10/index.html
It takes you from 10 million light years away from Earth down to the quarks in a proton of an oak leaf in exponential powers of ten.
Downside: you may have to enable java to view it. Upside: It's WELL worth it. Data, as the resident Numbers Genius of the forum, I thought of you when I came across this the other day...LOL.
Take care,

Piexa, Thanks for the vote of confidence. That's exactly what I meant. But I am beginning to think that getting off of the subject of this Forum (which is computer stuff simply put) is irritating to some. I left myself wide open for Data's kind of comment - anyone having a bad day!!! Imagine, no one having the wisdom to hope for world peace!!! Doesn't make sense. So I am signing off as "registered" and may occasionally view Forum for computer information. Now I understand why so many are "unregistered". Some would prefer that responding comments be "really personal" and even with a nickname, it does feel as such. I do not wish this kind of personal misdirected attention.
But to those I have come to "know", thanks for the information and good humor (and serious reflection - just once). And "be careful out there". "Unregistered" Newbietoo

HI,
"I left myself wide open for Data's kind of comment - anyone having a bad day!!! Imagine, no one having the wisdom to hope for world peace!!! Doesn't make sense."
PEOPLE will do any thinng for personal gains.
and i wasn't refering to u-i was refering to all those polticians who made this mess.
Piexa,u can stop pulling my leg,now :)
"what if I lived in vietnam,kosvo,north korea,iraq.

i said that just as some thing to think about, nothing more.
a lot of ppl all over the world suffer daily in the hands of powerfull people.
These terrorists-they are so b'coz of hatred and why is this hatred?
its b'coz of oppresion in hands of the powerfull.
they always strike back with vegence when they get their chance.
no matter how many terrorists,we crack down, with the oppresion of people,it is bound to grow.
the first thing is ,power full people need to be good and resonable to ordinary people.-which is very rarely seen in society.
it was just an expression-no hard feelins newbie2
Regards Data.
hi,
my apologies to newbie too and any one else whose feelings were hurt by my comments.
The question of how significant we r in this universe.
the signifance of any person or an imortance attached to a person is that by the people around them.it is variable.
...and if we are alone in the milky way,as they say in the movie E.T ,"it is a waste of lot of space".

LOL Data...not pulling your leg. When I watch you muse about algorithms and numerical theories on here, I feel like a dog watching a metronome.
About our universal significance? As that site showed, our sun is hardly visible at 1 light year away from Earth and if the entire Earth exploded into nothingness, it would hardly be more than a tiny, momentary blip from 10 million kilometers away. Yet, as the human race has always done, we overvalue our own being, even (in some cases) to the egotistical point of claiming sole existence in a universe we know diddly-squat about. It's this obnoxious superiority-complex that humanity is diseased with which creates the clashing of wills and egos and firepower in battles for more superiority, more territory, more control, more, more, more, more, more. Ugh.
We need to get over ourselves and realize that we are all we've got for many millions of miles out there, and sociological cannibalism only leaves one lonely, fat cannibal to starve to death in the end.
HI,
"LOL Data...not pulling your leg. When I watch you muse about algorithms and numerical theories on here, I feel like a dog watching a metronome"
fROM what i have seen it really doesnt matter if ur intelligent or genious or any thing like that.
all that matters in life is to be happy & if we do what it takes us to make us happy in life we are much better than any one.
Yes,i went through the site.each picture 10 times magnified gives the real scope of the problem of what we are and all those fights and wars on a small planet called earth-how stupid & worthless.

You are a misguided sole without any introspection whatsoever. Stick to the technical stuff and "go after" people who are really up to no good in this forum.

And you don't need to keep "repeating" the replies of others - it is insulting. We are capable of remembering what we wrote. Perhaps you could concentrate on giving a more "logical" explanation that is understood. "Spock"

Unregistered, chill out....I happen to like the fact that Data responds with our original and speciffic questions posted above. Sometimes posts will go for days without a response......the fact that us newbies get a response shows that the more experienced guys are willing to give a little of themselves....as some time may have gone by and we are probly wrapped up in something else, it is a courtesy to me anyway and much appreciated.
In fact. Data and the other wizzes could very well be in more technical chat rooms all the time and not give a rat's rump about helping others. I would love to be able to properly discuss algorythems..(spell check) but my brain not big enough!
As we are human we will disagree....Let the disagreeing begin I say because as much as we try to stay hidden under our chosen nics our humanity and everything that goes along with it has to rear it's ugly head....humans can't help it.
I don't know about the members home countries bet here in America everybody is very sensitive about offending some group or individual for fear of reprisal(spell check), so every body walks around saying the "proper things" instead of theire true feelings. It is sick that we are being reduced to robots and yes men.....there is a perfect example....bet ya 50 dollars somebody was offended by the word "yesman". Get over it...what should I say, yesperson.....now I'm argueing with myself....maybe some liberal judge will let me sue myself for auto-discrimination. I'll even petition to hire two lawyers to represent myselves.
Poeple disagree and that is the way it has always been we just have to stop being "offended" by it.
I'm watching my local news right now, let's see what's being discussed shall we. So far four car accidents and three news casters with awsome hair. Three highschoolers were charged with a string of arsons rangeing from police cruisers to highschool fascilities. The principal of the school says the fires were "unfortunate" and he is glad the "incidents" are behind us.
Where's your spine man, one of the little sob's sayed they did it because they "liked watching things burn". His response is typical of the way things are handled here in the USA where we give these pre-written answers. For responses to students commiting arson, please turn to page 32, paragraph 3-b.
If humans were only born with slightly thicker skins than many a lawyer would be out of a job!
Individual quirks and "true diversity" are the spice of life. As of now "diversity" means people of different color haveing the same beliefs. Oh sure your personal hidden beliefs may be different but don't you dare air it in public or you will be marked"intolerant".
And yes, I do have to put everything into quotation marks so there!:)
It's ironic that the original thread started off as "world peace" and I still like this world at all-nettools. We are human people, not unfeeling robots! However, personal restraint is a sign of maturity and possibly bad spelling so lets say what we think and try not to be offended because we are all 10 trillion light years away from eachother....or are we(yeagh, that was cheap but it's all I got right now).
PS. A dog watching a metronome. I laughed, I cried, thanks for that one Piexa,i'm going to use it at my earliest convenience:)
Any and all replies are of course welcome and as always have a very good day!
Sigkim

I was just cruising along the web so I thought i'd give allnettools a look:)....I can't believe this 2 year old thread is still here and somebody posted a response just a few days ago after all that time. This was one of my first stops on the web as a new computer user and I thank all the techie guys for theire help and pointing us in the right direction. Case in point I still have friends who use Aol and don't use a firewall with theire cable modems....EEK.
My first post was how to delete cookies I think. Since then I've accquired 3 more computers with various Linux distros partitioned with various Windows O/Ss. Youv'e come a long way baby:) I bought a 900MH AMD with an nvidia TI 4200 64mb card and an Audigy sound card for 150 bucks..(score).
Now it runs RH 9 and is a great pc for learning Linux.
To all the very new folks here keep posting and listening and helping where you can...computers are loads of fun.
I bid allnettoolers peace and have a very good day:)
PS.Newbietoo, Did you ever try Opera?....:)
