phpBB has become one of the best forums ever made.
You can find free ones but they are shitty with ads, make your own here.

First go to phpbb.com and download the latest.
Put it on your site and you will see the install page as the index, go to it in your browser.

You will need a database from http://freemysql.net, sign up and get your server details. Now you have a basic forum.

You will need an smtp server to send emails to your members.
The best way to do this is go to http://**********.au [australia yahoo is only one that offers free pop] and register and under options set POP checked.

Go to your forum admin panel and go general admin>configuration, near the end
Your options are:
smtp server: smtp.mail.**********.au
user: yahooaccountname[without @yahoo]
pass: yahoo account pass

Ok you are done with the hard part;)

Now to style your forum,
http://www.doublejweb.net/downloads/

Make a logo and rename it to this and this location ::yoursite.com/yourphpbbfolder/templates/Glass/images/green/logo_phpBB.gif

Ok I might have left something out, let me know if you need help.

[all this took a long time to figure out so i might as well have shared it :D ]
Wouldve done pics but im lazy

Anything else , other than fremysql it 's been down for ages.

I would use http://ejam.com but you need to post in their forum to keep membership.
