Could you guys post what type of anti-virus, anti-spam, anti-rootkit ...etc, you use for the security of your systems?

i am running AVG anti-virus on my system. Do you recommend that i also use the other free anti-spyware, and antirootkit from AVG?

cheers,
Noodles

thanks Dan,

the thing is that every guy has a different opinion about that. some other people advised me not to go with AVG as i can find better products that are free. do we have like some kind of site the compares or grades these products and give recommendations? a site that is reliable.

thanks.

avast is pretty good and free. A firewall is just as important. Free ones are zone alarm/comodo/sygate

Linux -- no antivirus really necessary, and the router prevents incoming connections unless I tell it not to (thus no firewall either).

I don't need to run some bullshit CPU-consuming application this way.

Imha using tha Ubuntu linuxes.

Theres some sort of AV somewhere with it (ClamAV I think, I've never seen it) and some sort of built in software firewall called iptables.

When in doze, I use free avg, and simply avoid double clicking on random .exe files.

Isimply avoid double clicking on random .exe files.

If people followed this small piece of advice, malware-infections would drop by 90%.

i ve dumped AVG and started using antiviri and comodo as firewall

both are working wonders and they are free.

when i scanned my system antivir caught like 5 trojans that were not detected by AVG.

I cannot agree with those who rank modesty among the virtues. To the logician all things should be seen exactly as they are, and to underestimate one's self is as much a departure from truth as to exaggerate one's own powers. ;) .

Ubuntu.

I know it's thought of as the "noob Linux", but it has the most support, packages, documentation and so on, so it makes sense to use it.

I don't like to have to compile every single application I wish to use.

I know some people who use Ubuntu. I don't own it, but I've tried it out and it's cool.

McAfee Total Protection (vrus, spyware, and firewall)
Norton SystemWorks for tune-ups

runs perfect...no lag or anything. easy to turn on/off at a moments notice:D

I've always hated Norton, they designed their software to be "idiot-proof" meaning they think apps like Cain and Abel are viruses and it eats more RAM than I would like. NOD32 + router's firewall is what I do.

If you don't feel comfortable using your router's firewall (maybe you can't get into the config panel to configure it?), then you should use CA Firewall.
