Mac *** through firewall

My work recently changed the firewall and I can't use *** anymore. Also, the java *** won't work right on my computer. Does anyone know how I can get around a probably decent firewall (I work at a newspaper).

I think you have to ask your firewall administrator to opn port 4000 (***)
