Is there any posibbility to connect my email client (Outlook, Eudora, The bat ...) through a proxy server. Does POP3 accepts http proxies e.g. 80, 3128, 8080 etc.
I do not want to send the emails using the proxy. I want my email client to connect and collect my emails using an external proxy.
If anyone can help me please email at japonezu77@yahoo.com
Thanks very much

Hi
HTTP proxies, or better those that can handle the CONNECT & GET mode (ssl tunnel) can perfectly be used for connecting to a POP3 server (port 110) or even an IMAP server (port 143).
HTTP proxy DOES NOT mean port 80 or 3128 etc..
Those SSL Tunnel proxies might be installed on any port like 41056 or 9009 or 6625 etc..
You need to test them to insure that they can properly handle the CONNECT mode.
Thay is said, now my question is
Why would any one need to connect through a proxy to fetch HIS OWN EMAILs? (unless they aren't his!)
As you know, POP3 requires authentification (user & password)
therefore you need to supply the correct username and password in order to collect your email.
wheteher you do it via a direct connection or through a proxy, you must supply your username & password.
By definition, it is 'YOUR' account, therefore no need to use a proxy to fetch your own account.
It is like wearing gloves hiding his fingerprints to open his own door !
UNLESS, UNLESS the account is not yours, then it is a felony to access somebody's email account using his username/password
Same as introducing into somebody's appartment using his keys.
Think twice.

What is better than reading ~ Piexa and DATA on the same post.
It has been very long time I didn't enjoy seeing old buddies posting all together.
Lately I sent a P.M to DATA wondering why we do not see anymore the old members and hoping they're doing fine even when we don't hear from them.
If I'm not mistaken, besides both of you, I do not see any old member on this board. too bad :(

Hi fEǚ.法Er .... all,
How can i connect through The Bath or Eudora? I do not want to use this "connection" to read other's email box. I have a anonymizer connection (Tunnelier). How can i associate this with POP3 to read my emails through anonymizer (SSL tunnel).
I want to use this because my email ISP does not support secured authentification and my passwords are very easy stolen though my network. It happens twice this month. We have a 300 people PC network and they have password sniffers. It's very easy to stole someone's passwords using a sniffer through a private intranet.
PS: What about IMAP?
Thanks very much,

Hi
1st of all IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol
It is 'another way' to get your emails.
While POP3 server allows you to connect and DOWNLOAD the entire EMail to your harddisk in order to open & read, IMAP servers will let you read YOUR EMAIL while it is still on the server without the need to download it to your PC.
Therefore you get a much faster access and you save lot of space, however, this IMAP service is not always provided.
If it is available, you can access it on port 143 instead of 110 for the POP3.
Now back to the main question, assuming that you have the following working http proxy myproxy.isverygood.com:9900
There is no available feature in theBat! or Eudora to use tunnel proxy, therefore, you need to use THIS (http://www.sureshotsoftware.com/tcptunnel/index.html). Or wait until I release very soon a free little tiny program which is in fact the Tunnel Proxy engine of SYMPA, it will be a stand alone program that will let you do tunneling with any application EVEN if it does not have a proxy feature.(which is your case with theBat!)
>In your bat! or Eudora, replace your standard POP3 server by 127.0.0.1
>then replace the standard port 110 by a high range port like 1111
>In the tunneling application (THIS) (http://www.sureshotsoftware.com/tcptunnel/index.html) you make 1111 the listening port. so your bat! will call the tunneling application on port 1111.
(if you have a firewall, give enough rights to open port 1111)
>In the tunneling application you enter in the corresponding fields the proxy IP (myproxy.isverygood.com) and the proxy port (9900).
>In the tunneling application you enter in the destination field your usual POP3 server, and in the destination port put the standard 110 port.
client (bat!)-------------------Tunnelapplication--------------------PROXY
call 127.0.0.1:1111----listen at 1111,Callproxy----PROXY---->POP3

Something I would like to add,
Verify again if your Provider can support POP3 SSL (port 995)
this would be the ideal solution for you.
All what you need to do is to change the port in your Email client to seek 995 instead of 110.

Thanks so much. I will try this. When your program will be available please let me know. I would like to try it. My company email does not support web mail, only connections thorugh POP3 or IMAP. It is the company i work for email server and i am forced to use that one.
I will try freedom web secure also, but this service allows only browsing features. I cannot use it for IMAP or POP3. About the password sniffing is there anything i can do. Is there any posibility other that one you described? IS there any software that can read the emails through a proxy or through a secured encryption?
Thanks so much again... I will try the option you proposed. I hope that will work.
Best regards.

I tried it but i keep receiving an error message (cannot connect to mail.myPOP3.com:110 through the http proxy HTTP 1.1 403 forbidden. The proxy i used supports SSL connections. Also the TCPtunnel work perfect. I tried it for browsing.
PS: Do you know what is happening. I closed my firewall to be sure that this will not be the problem. Any ideea ....
Thanks...

"HTTP 1.1 403 forbidden" means that the proxy is NOT accepting the tunneling.
find another working proxy.

HI back,
My oppinion? .... I think that TCPtunnel should be used for HTTP proxy because the software tries to connect the HTTP proxie not the POP3 or any other proxy. Are you sure that program can be used for my problem? I tried to connect it thgough my anonymizer (www.anonymizer.com) and the connection failed. The anonymizer has POP3 connection implemented (mail.anonymizer.com:110). He is listening my 110 port when my PC boots. I will keep tryin'...
Thanks again for your time.

In fact The command line of TCP is as follows
TCP -listenport (here you put 1111) -proxies (here you enter your.proxy.com:????) -tohost (here your enter your pop3 server pop.anyserver.com) -toport (here you enter 110)
this will give
TCP -listenport 1111 -proxies your.proxy.com:???? -tohost pop.anyserver.com -toport 110
You need to EXACTLY respect this format but enter your own values.
In your Email client, replace the POP3 server by 127.0.0.1
Replace the port 110 by 1111.
TCPTunnel support perfectly ANY DESTINATION, it is the proxy that MIGHT NOT support port 110.
If you entered correctly all figures and still does not work then try this proxy 66.41.214.181:3777
Very important to know that, this whole procedure is NOT SECURE, your initial purpose was to hide your user name and password, in fact, this procedure DOES NOT hide them at all, it will only route them through a proxy, (where they can be intercepted!!)
THE ONLY SECURE WAY is by using POP3 SSL port 995 (that's why they invented it ;)

Hmm,
Seems like the TCPtunnel cannot handle POP3 requests. I did it with other software. It is working now. Anyway your ideea helped me 100% of 100%. I kept thinking for one month for a solution. Right now i got it. Thanks to you.
IS there anything i can help you?? I would love to do that.
Best regards.

Hi
Thanks, it is very kind of you to propose.
By the way, May I suggest using my tiny program (http://fever.resourcez.com/tmp/TM.zip) and give it a try.
Remember it is still in alpha stage, I didn't have time yet to clear all bugs.
Let me know how it works for you so I can rectify any lack.
thanks

(sigh) you're right, fEǚ.法Er, I think you, DATA and I have been abandoned. Does anyone know what happened to Blacksheep and Yabut? As I recall, Blacksheep went on to admin his own forum, didn't he?

It is true that all of us have other activities making our schedule a bit overloaded, however, one can still spare couple of minutes every 3 or 4 days to have a quick glance on this forum.
I also heard that blacksheep is running his own board but don't know where or what about. I wish him all success however.
Let's hear from you often ~ Piexa

Hi
That was over a month ago, I put this link (http://fever.resourcez.com/tmp/TM.zip) only for your evaluation.
Since then, I took it out thinking that you already tested it.
Sorry for that, it's back now.

Thanks.
It means that your PC is most probably connected to a Local Area Network (like at work for instance), therefore your IP as detected by SYMPA would be something like 192.168.xxx.xxx (local internal IP).
Under this situation, several ports are closed by your sys admin, unfortunately SYMPA will be disabled.
Would you please verify your IP as indicated by SYMPA and confirm .

Also i am sure that Sympa detected the intranet ip 192.168.XXX.XXX not my real IP. Also i was wondering if this software can be used to send bulk emails.
Thanks so much!
