There are many types of programs which allow remote snooping and logging and even remote control. Some of them are detectable using up-to-date antivirus and spyware detection programs (so use them at the earliest opportunity if you are concerned, check this forum for references to Homecall, Spybot R&D and Ad-Aware, all freely available), and others are more covert and would require an experienced security expert to uncover.
