A question from a real newbie

The public proxies shown in many lists permitting anonimous surfing, are they free (non pay) or maybe I must look up a free public proxy list? Thanks and sorry my English.

Yes, there are plenty of free proxies listed on certain websites. I have spent two years looking for good proxies and have been disappointed many times - my real IP has appeared when I have done many environmental checks. Appearing in another posting was this for an excellent proxy checker (and I agree): [url]http://www.stilllistener.addr.com/checkpoint*/[/url]

Sometimes proxies just go away or become "fee for service". To date I am using [url]http://www.amegaproxy.com[/url] It checks out nicely every time for me at least. You may select encryption and it does not slow me down at all. You have to allow at least scripting setting on your computer. I have all of the other bad stuff turned off, and it still works. Members might disagree with me and because I am still a newbie, I'll defer to them. Hope they respond your post as well. Regards, Newbietoo :)

Just checked in to see if there were any responses to my questions. Except for forum member Yabut, I am getting the feeling that whenever folks see anything like "newbie" they stay away. The problem with [url]http://www.amegaproxy.com[/url] is that its free anonymous surfing service is restricted. So, you can't access to some sites.
I've just dowmloaded a program called Anonymity 4 Proxy (v. 4.52), and at the moment it seems work quite well for me.
By the way, I already knew the proxy checker [url]http://www.stilllistener.addr.com/checkpoint*/[/url]
and I'm glad to know it's an excellent one.
But I'm still with the same doubt: the free proxies servers are really free and (most important) safe? What they are earning lending that service for free?

Yes, some proxies are restrictive. For example, I have never been able to get into a chatroom using a good proxy. Even with everything enabled on my computer. But I don't go to chatrooms anymore so that amegaproxy works well for me. The reason proxies can remain free is because of the ad banners that you can view at the top of your screen near their toolbar. Or sometimes they appear as popups. Amegaproxy is polite in that they show one huge frame at the beginning which you can click off at the X. About safety? Well, if you like what you see using the environmental checks you might say "safe". But we don't see the behind the scenes administrative workings for proxies. Perhaps a seasoned forum member can address that for you. I have two favorite forum members: Yabut and Blacksheep. Blacksheep would tell you that "internet safety is an illusion". This is so. Remember, even with a proxy, at your starting point your real IP is known. And if a website doesn't like what you are doing, they can go back to your proxy IP in search of who you are (your real IP). Bottom line: always be a good citizen :) regards, Newbietoo

To be anon using anon proxy you must have Java, Javascript, and ActiveX (IE) disabled in your browser.

U can use chained proxies in that case.If any * of the proxy in the chain is true,ur anonymity is preserved.
More over if the chained proxies are in different countries the web site ppl will have to go round all the countries asking for the previous ip address in the chain.More ever what if the country that the web site is asking be a hostile country?there is no way they will give the ip then.

For secure communication always use good encryption.
Some web sites that are concerned about ur privacy & security of the data viewed allow a secure http on port 44* of their server.

There aren't many web sites that provide this service but some of them do.

Then you must enter on your explorer (proxy server manual configuration) both the HTTP proxy and port.
So, you are anon and there are not any banners or pop-ups anywhere.

Hi Data, sorry for the delay. Thanx for the info. :) And Anon, I guess I misunderstood. I don't know how to use anonymous proxies via configuring my computer with numbers and ports and such. Im so new I just found out about firewalls,encryption,viruses,and all the *****ing that can be done with a computer as well. About a year ago my friends computer was ruined due to an email he recieved from someone at a gameing site.He had no seccurity measures on his machine at all.When i caught up with him a few weeks ago he s***ested I find out for myself about security.I started at kimkomando and after surfing around found my way here.All you supposed newbies are computer experts compared to where some of us are still at. I ran the adware program and was shocked at how many spyware programs were in my pc,(bonzai buddy and gator had to be revoved multiple times before they were gone)>well i hope there gone.I ran the same program on one of my buddy's computer and it was sex*****er this and adult ads that,and of course bb and gator.We all had a good laugh(at his expense of course).Sorry im rambling.does anyone have a good site for a list of reference terms,ports,exe,java doc,etc.When I read these terms I would like to know exactly what is being discussed as I'm sure all new computer users would.Thank you for your attention.
