software privacy
Hello everyone and a complete newb question here,
I understand that a certain software I'm using is able to 'phone home' and indentify my mac address, my ip, and my personal web domain. What protections can I take to prevent this?
I'm currently using a firewall called 'Windows 8 firewall Control', but I sense that's not enough.
Thanks in advance for any help

You need to configure it properly. Here is directions to do it with Windows firewall. It should be similar for your firewall.
Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Firewall
Pick 'Advanced Settings' on the left bar
Click 'Outbound Rules' on the left, then 'New Rule' on the right
Select 'Program', Next
Browse to the program's .exe, Next
Select 'Block the connection', Next
Leave all the boxes ticked, Next
Give the rule a name, Finish

Even if you have configured it successfully you still have to be extra careful in using and opening any websites and softwares. Other sites attack you directly that you would be shock that you're already infected with the virus it has.
