Unwanted toolbar?

My computer (WinXP) has acquired an unwanted toolbar. It sits under IE, has a small search field and then an array of radio buttons with changing topics such as "Pay per click, Homepage" etc.
When I right click this tool bar a drop down list from 'View" appears; at the bottom of the list is the entry 'bike', and it's checked. Unchecking it temporarily closes the tool bar.

Any info on how my PC acquired this, and especially how to get rid of it is much appreciated.

Most probably, your PC aquired this by means of security flaw in MS Internet Explorer. You should tighten the secuirty policy in the options, and yet this doesn't guarantee that no holes are left. MSIE is fundamentally flawed. If you want to visit a "risky" site, so to say, use Opera or Netscape Navigator.

How to get rid of this: get AdAware at www.lavasoftusa.com .

Thanks for the reply. I did run Ad Aware, Pest Patrol , and Norton AV.
Nothing showed.
My computer is shared with my **yr old, who swears he noticed it when I did, though I have my doubts about this story.

If you or anyone might know of another procedure short of System Restore to help me locate and remove this toolbar I'd appreciate any info.

Hijackthis

Hi, there's a small utility called "Hijackthis".

You can download it anywhere in the web (look for it in Google).

It shows you all the "parasites" that sit in your registry,
and allows you to remove them.
Beware that it shows you much more than you really have to remove,
so find only the toolbar you want to delete (I know that it's too general solution, but it's your only one right now), and look for it in Google.

For example, you think that MyCoolToolbar.dll is the thing, so just look for it in google to make sure it's really something you don't need and a not a vital component of Windows.

Unwanted Toolbar Removed

Thanks to everyone for their advice. I like the Hijackthis program. The way I resolved the toolbar issue was to click on it and find the reroute. Then I simply went to the web site and they had software to remove it and all its' entries.
