getting someones IP address

don't telnet to a port if you see an established connection through it. you want to telnet to a listening port. look into your messenger for "listen on port **** for transferring files" or something like that. if your buddy uses the same protocol (say yahoo, aol, etc) he will most probably listen on the same port as you are. telnet him on that port.
but! that is only to make sure he has port **** open, as you will most probably get a black blank shell (this would be the result of a successful raw connection to that port on the remote machine). try playing with [URL=http://www.tartarus.org/~simon/putty-snapshots/x86/putty.exe]putty.exe[/URL] , hope it might come in handy...

The subject basically tells it like it is. I'm getting death threats on a forum ***rd from somebody who's a regular there, but they made a dup. account to hide behind for the threats. I was just wondering how I could go about figuring out who it is? I read through this thread and there's nothing in here for this. I don't care about the IP address itself, I just wanna know what other accounts this same person uses. Is there any possible way to do it?

I guess I could make a site that *****s IP, send them there (IF they'll go), get the IP.... and then trace it for city/state and try to figure out what regular lives in the same city/state ??

I'm lost on other ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Unless you've given out your physical address to the person or a site like MySpace where they can view your info, they have no way to find you. Don't worry about getting killed. You have a bigger chance of getting killled by global warming than you do from this person on the Internet.

They do have my MySpace information, unfortunately. I'd posted my profile link on there before when everyone was adding each other to their friends lists. I also have pics on my MySpace of myself and my daughter I don't even know why this psycho is threatening me. Probably a severe case of jealousy
