I know this is probably pointless, but....

I guess it's worth a try. I am recently new at trying to figure out intrusion techniques and whatnot. I really would like to learn how to access other computers and sniff out information without being detected. I am fascinated by the complexity of the whole hacking process and I know it can't be done over night. The information on how to go about it doesn't come from thin air (or just google) either. So if there is anyone out there that could possibly point me in the direction of getting started, I would greatly appreciate it!

There isn't really one site or one set of links you can give to someone and say "these sites will teach you all you ever need to know about hacking", there is so much information available on hacking and computers. If you keep using google, reading people's posts in forums like this, reading tutorials you gain more knowledge every day, like you said hacking is not something you can do over night but if you keep reading you will become better and understand hacking more, at least that's how I learned. Also, people post a lot and ask about hacking, but they don't want to learn about programming, just hacking. If you learn a programming language like c++ and a few scripting languages for websites like html and javascript, you will find it a lot easier to understand hacking, if you don't, then you will be stuck like those people who refuse to even consider programming as a part of hacking, these people will be restricted to downloading and using programs that they have no understanding of until they accept that a knowledge of computers is a requirement for hacking. A few things to remember if you are new to hacking are:

-Don't ask questions like "plz hack this hotmail account", you will get called a n00b and flamed, hacking email accounts is not easy and impossible most of the time unless an exploit is involved.

-Google and use the search button (if in a forum), your question has probably been asked many times before and hackers don't want to waste their time with someone who is too lazy to search.

-Don't give up on hacking because you can't hack straight away, once you have more knowledge, you will find things a lot easier.

-Don't rely on other people's programs to do all your work, learning how to create the program and knowing how it works will get you further than using pre written scripts or programs.

-Don't ask someone to hack your enemy or some website, people will not commit crimes for you just because you asked them to, and hacking is more complicated than just saying "plz hack this site www.++++++.com" and expecting it to crash/be defaced in minutes.

A few random sites about hacking that you might want to look at (not a full list, just a few from my bookmarks):

http://www.totse.com/
http://www.textfiles.com/

Some of them aren't even about hacking, but I just took a few from my list anyway.
