    bootable diagnostic floppy

Friends: I am running a Pentium * with Windows *8. My HD began acting up and a Scandisk passed all file tests until the surface scan, which it failed. I tried Ghosting it over toa new HD but I keep getting "bad blocks" messages. I can still access the disk by DOS. Is there a good bootable floppy out there I can use to recover what's good on the HD before Ghosting again? Thanks for any help.

you need a newer computer...and an understanding that it is a piece of crap that is now dead...bad blocks means its a dead HD

Pop another drive or some other strorage thing in the PC with the problems. Boot up in DOS, since you say you can still access everything that way and copy all the files you want to the new drive.

When you're done, take the drive out and put it in the machine you want it in and copy it over... unless of course the drive you used to copy the info from the bad machine is the only HD in the good one. If thats the case then you're all done.
