Netscape leakier than IE - could it be???

Nettools does not find my IP through my proxy in either Netscape 4.7 or IE 5.5. Nor does Snoop.anonymizer find my IP through my proxy in IE

But Snoop does find my IP in Netscape, as though the proxy were not there.

I've hard deleted my cache files, but in order to get to the Snoop page I have left Java and JavaScripts enabled in both browsers.

The point of this exercise, however, is to compare browsers.
I know IE is supposed to be "leakier" than NS, but this case seems to prove the contrary.

Any ideas as to why this should be? Netscape browser bug?

Netscape leaky?

Hmmm...

Nulland Void had Nav leak problem somewhere in this thread http://www.all-nettools.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2**&pagenumber=*

To prevent your IP and other stuff leaking you should have ActiveX (MSIE), Java, and scripting disabled.

Run Java test here: http://www.stilllistener.addr.com/checkpoint*/index.shtml

Hi all,

I'm not sure what you mean by "leaky".
Could you elaborate on that term.

Try this: go in Nav's folders, (in Program Files)
then work your way to the Cache folder. Take the "fat.db" file to a text editor, and delete whatever content it may have, and re-save the file. Then set that file's properties to Read only.
If you feel so inclined, you can do the same to the "cookie.txt" file.

It is interesting to note that all the proxies considered "anonymous" that I've tried show me anonymous at the various proxy check sites, except at GRC's.
I think Blacksheep is right. It must be something to do with encrypted HTTPS headers.

I am, at this time, messing around with HotJava browser. Any opinions on that one?

"Leaks" and HotJava...

By "leakier" I'm only referring to the comparative behavior of IE and NS browsers. In my example, the Nettools IP test returns the proxy IP and "No proxy detected" for both IE and Netscape. However, snoop.anonymizer is able to see right through the proxy to the remote IP when in NS - but not IE. Since the only variable is the browser used - both browsers being configured the same - I get the impression that NS is "leaking" the IP, while IE isn't.

As for HotJava, were you asking me? Sorry, I thought maybe you were asking Blacksheep. I know nothing about HotJava. Should I give it a try?

I tried an earlier version of HotJava about a year ago, and it was real shaky.

I'm using version *.0 now (from time to time), and it's a major improvement over the earlier one.

I really hope the Sun people will hone it into a great browser. I just wondered if anyone here uses it.

As for "leaky" browsers, check this out:
