    Hi fEǚ.法Er,

    Did you find all the info on Visnetic firewall you needed?

    Do you know of a free port mapper that will run on Win*8SE?

    Hello Blacksheep & thank you for questionning me,

    I would really like you to try this application, it runs perfectly well on W*x/Me OS. I have tried so many powerful other stuff, but when I use Win*8 I like this one, I hope you will find it at your expectation.

    try the features (ports finder) & (ports database).

    BTW: my little finger is telling me that if you SIMPLY delete these 2 keys created by this softwr, you would like it even more.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Classes\\CLSID\\{50E*F*5E-CF*F-*48C-8846-*F*BD**8*A5E}

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Classes\\CLSID\\{B2C*40*E-8742-2*D6-8EB6-5A4EF6*D8AC4}

    try to make a tiny "vbs" to take care of it by simple click...

    take care & regards.

    Concerning Visnetic, I thank you for the forum that is providing various kind of information and opinions, however, and based on my personal experience, I do not feel that the product surpases ZA Pro.
    do you ?

    Firewalls

    Thanks for port mapper tips.

    I have not tried Visnetic or late version ZA Pro. I think ZA is adding too many bells and whistles.

    I like SPF Pro 5 with TerminateProcess protection and built in mini sniffer. I run CommView so don't need SPF sniffer but, it is useful for those without a sniffer.

    You are right, CommView is great, it's always running on my PC, more reliable than a simple sniffer.

    have a look at this page (they do not even mention Visnetic !?)

    True, nor is probably one of the best rules based FWs L'n'S:

    I've been using VisNetic few the past week with XP Home Edition. I started using it because it's made by the people who made ConSeal PC Firewall, which I've used for the past * years but is no longer being distributed.

    So far the differences I've noticed are:

    *.Running CPF and ZoneAlarm free version together, CPF always blocks first. Running VisNetic and ZA together results in ZA blocking.

    2.The readout for CPF was much easier to read than VisNetic. CPF shows source and destination IP and ports. VisNetic just shows which rule has kicked in.

    *.Seems to be a problem getting the display not to scroll up with VisNetic. CPF lets the display remain fixed, showing the most recent traffic blocked or allowed.

    I've stopped running ZA and only run VisNetic now. It's passed every online scan test I've taken so far as all ports stealthed. There is supposed to be another version coming out this month, v*.0* is what I'm using now. Perhaps these issues will be addressed in later versions.

    I plan to keep VisNetic on the grounds I've had such good luck with ConSeal. They also have an online service that let me convert my CPF ruleset to VisNetic.
