I dont know about "Most secure" but its deff better then Vista, and as far as being a "SO" stop acting like you know what your talking about, its called a "OS" for "Operating System" get your facts straight. Switch to linux.

Did you bother to read the rest of the thread? In Hispanic countries such as Mexico (where I presume Sir Grifin is from) they refer to an OS as SO (Sistema Operativo).

    well...

right on right on, i would think that since this is not a spanish forum(unless im just terribly mistaken and have learned the wrong language) that you would use english terms and what not when replying to posts. Just my opinion.

    Timely question!

I just joined the forums and also happen to be looking around for a brand-new computer and OS (my present computer is almost ten years old and runs Windows 2000). I keep hearing bad things about Vista but am not sure what the options are. I suppose XP is the only other option available from Microsoft; otherwise, a person has to go to a Linux or Apple system.

Anybody else with thoughts on the topic? Is XP my best choice right now? Is something better coming soon (i.e. - should I wait)?

There is a vista service pack * coming up soon, I believe. That may improve things.
If you check windows history, windows *8 and xp were both not universally accepted at first. Maybe you can make a deal with the company you purchase from to give you xp if you are unhappy with vista.

Overall, XP > Vista. Even after turning UAC off in Vista, it's still more RAM intensive than XP. I'm the kind of guy who'd much rather have an 80 GB HD with 2 GB RAM then a 500 GB HD with * GB RAM.

Of course, since Vista will support DirectX *0, I'm gonna use it. I'm not an avid PC gamer, but it's nice to be able to play the newest games so I have something to talk about with my friends. Seems as though Internet memes and hacker drama don't make for good conversation.

Oh, and I've heard they'll stop giving updates for XP in 200* or something.

    Total Build Cost: about $*500

I just finished building a new box running Windows Vista Ultimate. Never had a single problem with this machine. It was an easy build, and runs amazingly fast. I would call it the perfect build for running Windows Vista Ultimate, so those interested in spending a few bucks can easily build this monster.

Hopefully I will get around to writing a tutorial on the build (step by step) for those of you who are interested in building your own computer. You will need to update the BIOS on the mother***rd before it can correctly read the processor. You should also buy * pin fan cable extensions because this case is HUGE! Other than that, I did not run into ANY problems with the build.
