Why do Anonymous Proxy Servers offer a free service?

This is a question that I have pondering for quite some time now. Can someone help me out here by giving an answer to the above question? Thanks.

Most of them don't offer the service intentionally - they just forget to close a few backdoors (port 80, 8080 etc.) on their server. Why I don't know, because some are large companies with resources who should know better.

Only thing I would add is avoid proxies, even anon ones in countries like usa,ca,uk,au,zz (and never in your own country) - stick with those in Far East, Eastern Europe, Latin America - it just make the job of finding your real ip that much more difficult for anybody.

    ....cont.

most companies when they discover their mistake will shut the proxy off - but beware of those that work for too long - they could be a trap. I know a fast proxy been on for 6 months, but makes me suspicious - as it's an isp and surely they must know!

Change your proxy often, there are plenty around if you search.
