The best thing for you to do is go to www.zdnet.com/download and type in Zonealarm. It is a free firewall that seems to do the job. They have a different version of Zonealrm called Zonealarm Pro that you have to pay for but the free one seems to work just fine. As far as checking your system. I would not know how to do that but you can go to https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 and have it checked there. Hope this helps. Later...

hi
I have checked the ip that you mentionned

(I hope you have a static IP and it is still yours)

if you have a dynamic IP, then the IP that I checked march *2, 200* at *7:00 GMT could have been assigned to someone else!!

.you do not use a firewall
.ICMP (ping) is possible
.trace route is possible
.you are under windows 2000
.your PC name is PUBLIC_8
.port *** and *025 are WIDE open.

conclusion, to my opinion if you disable file sharing
and you use an up to date anti_virus
there's NOTHING to worry about

take care

Yes. It is a good idea to disable file sharing and to get an anti virus program but you still need a firewall. Otherwise, hackers will be able to gain entry into your computer system. Not only would they be able to snoop around all of your private information, they could very well cause damage to your computer system. Always keep your PC as secure as possible. There are all types of threats out there.
