You might as well spend that $30 at a HD-repair service somewhere. I'm not sure if I can help you.
Can you give details on what happens when you try to boot up?"Workers of the world unite; you have nothing to lose but your chains." -Karl Marx

I dunno a service off the top of my head; never had to use one. I'd just Google up "data recovery" and see what you get.
For the time being, boot of a Linux LiveCD like Ubuntu and see if you can do anything."Workers of the world unite; you have nothing to lose but your chains." -Karl Marx
