    Tracert

    XP Home+SP*

At the Command Prompt I can use 'ping' successfully but whenever I use 'tracert' - with any IP Address - I get a series of 'request timed out' - why might this be?

    Thanks

    Re: Tracert

You have setup your firewall NOT to allow the tracert.exe command to access your TCP/IP.

Could be XP internal firewall, or any Firewall application like ZoneAlarm, or even the network firewall if your PC is part of a network at work or at the university.

Note that both ping and tracert use port 0 (zero) and rely on DNS resolution so if ping is working fine, there shouldn't be any other reason to tracert not to work as well.
