How do I use a public proxy?

I have no idea how to do this. I want to use a free, public proxy, but I don't know how. I use the IE6 based Slimbrowser as well.

Ok, go to Tools --> Internet Options --> Connections --> LAN Settings then click "Use a proxy server". Input the proxy address into the left box and the port (the one after the colon) in the right.

There are no free proxies, there are misconfigured. Therefore using them is illegal.

This is mistake. Using anonimus proxy is *00% legal.
You may find some free proxy lists, daily updated here:

To check your settings go to http://all-nettools.com/pr.htm

Ip address on that page must be not yours if you made everything right.

Does a "proxy" work on "Forum" web sites?

I use * different "user names" on a web Forum that has several different topic areas.

The Forum uses Infopop "Eve" forum hosting software.

Recently, when logging in using one of my three user names, a pop up box said... "Your IP has been *****ed". We only allow one user name for the Forum. Your account has been deleted".

QUESTION:
What information did my computer reveal, that the Forum knew I was "the same user" using a different "user name"?

I use AOL. It appears that AOL gives me a different IP address every time I log on to the Internet. Is there something in my AOL packets that the Forum software can dectect that it is "the same user" as another using a different log-in name?

Would a "proxy server" remove this computer "information" that the Forum software can "see"?

Any information of the type of proxy software or computer configuration to remove or hide this information, would be appreciated. No doubt, many others participating in various Forums, and is concerned about their privacy, would like this information, too.

Thanks.

Illegal to use 'Free' Proxies -- NOT!

See here for a detailed refutation of your assertion: http://www.stayinvisible.com/index.pl/proxy_servers_faq#*055

See here for some info re what Java reveals, even if you use a proxy: http://www.stayinvisible.com/index.pl/how_it_works

If you know that they are using Infopop Eve, can you not find out something about that application's capabilities that would help you?

I too was discovered using multiple registrations on a forum that only permitted one, even though I operated through high anonymity proxies, and logged-out of one account before using another. I also had Java disabled, used Firefox -- which was not configured as my default browser, and cleared all cookies at the end of each session, but I was 'sloppy' in that I registered each account using the same false address and password. Perhaps that's how I was discovered, I don't know, but discovery did me a great favour -- I now have more time to get on with some real work, instead of wasting time posting on forums (current situation excepted).

Be delighted if anyone else has some useful information on subject.

Thanks for the info concerning proxy servers!! I'll check it out!!

I'm a novice regarding proxy servers... so, pardon my ignorance for the following questions:

QUESTION:

*. If I use AOL as my ISP... and, I use a proxy server for my web surfing and Forum posting... does any part of the AOL IP address "still" appear and be viewable or "*****ed" my the Forum software (Infopop "Eve" Forum hosting software)?

2. If I use a proxy server... and, just for the sake of argument the proxy server IP is "*2*.456.78*.000". If I continue to use "this" proxy server IP number to connect to the Internet... won't the Forum software reveal that "this same IP *2*.456.78*.000" is being used regularly by Forum users "JOHN DOE *" and "SAM DOE 2" and "JACK DOE *"? And, wouldn't the Forum Administrator conclude that "these * different user names... are using the same IP... so, they MUST be the same person.

So, if by using the same proxy server IP every time I use the Internet, what's the point of using a proxy server?

The only scenerio where using a proxy server would keep my Forum anonymity, would be if I used a "different" proxy server IP every time I decided to connect and post to the Forum. I could never use the same proxy server IP for my "different" Forum "User Names". I would have to keep ***** of which proxy server IP I used with each Forum "user name"... and hope I never made the mistake of connecting to the Forum using "John Doe *"... using "Sam Doe 2"'s proxy server IP.

It seems that the safest way... is to use a different proxy server IP... EVERY TIME I decide to connect to the Forum. What a nuisance.

Perhaps I'm confused about how the proxy server system actually works. If so, I apologize!!! Please enlighten me.

I guess I need to know..."Do I need to use a "different" proxy server IP for "each" of my user names. And, hopefully, never making the mistake of using "Forum user A"'s proxy IP when logging-in as "Forum user B".

ANOTHER QUESTION:
4. The Forum software leaves a "cookie" file on my computer. Does a proxy server "strip" or prevent this "cookie" from being "seen" by the Forum Administrator? If not, I would have to clear my cookie file every time... prior to connecting to the Forum.

Thanks... to any and all that can contribute to answering my perplexing (at least, to me) questions about proxy servers.

I'm certain that any replies will be read and appreciated by many others, than just myself.

Thanks, again!!! :-)

I'm only a newbie in these matters myself, but here's what I've found out in relation to your questions:-

I know nothing about AOL, but my understanding is that if you use a high anonimity proxy, and disable Java, your real, or originating IP cannot be traced. The best test of how effectively you are hiding yourself that I've found is here: http://www.stayinvisible.com/index.pl/test_your_ip_nocache. Give it a try.

Yes, the Forum Admin will be able to see the proxy IP address is the same for all * people, but that doesn't necessarily mean that all * people are the same person. A PC in a public library has a fixed IP address, but during the day hundreds of different people use it to check out their mail, post etc, so the same address appearing on the forum logs isn't necessarily fatal to your plan.

Personally, I use a different proxy for each persona I use, which is easy to do with Firefox if you have the Switch Proxy extension installed. Get them both here: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/index.html

As a precaution, I have Firefox configured to delete cookies when I close my browser, and I do that automatically before I change proxies in any event. I don't know if this is strictly necessary, but why take chances?

HTH, but will be pleased to see any more knowledgeable replies to your questions.

F.

use proxy that doesnt spill your IP (highly anonymous proxy) and then turn off your java and your cookie, or if you want you can use JAP or proximitron to disguise your info. and last how many forums do you have to go just to finalize your attack? you seem eager to know this things i just hope you dont use it and abuse some message ***rd after all the help you get. but dont forget if they want to know you they can it's just a matter of time.
